In Crisis of Faith, Crisis of Love, Father Thomas says, “The gospels are a mirror in which we can sometimes see, if we look closely, what God is doing in our own souls right here and now. In the day-to-day encounters Jesus had with people coming to him, and in developing relationships with his disciples, we recognize examples of symbols of the way we are encountering him and the way he is relating to us and working in us today.” In Centering Prayer, we consent to the presence and action of God within. Lectio Divina helps us to discern what God’s action is in our lives. During this retreat, we will pray in the manner of Lectio Divina with the gospel stories about Peter to look closely at our own human condition and how God is calling us into deeper relationship.

The retreat provides an opportunity to deepen the practice of Centering Prayer in an atmosphere of silence and community support. It includes about three hours of Centering Prayer per day, morning and afternoon live conferences on Lectio Divina by Julie Saad, time for solitude and walks.  The retreat is designed to deepen ones’ relationship with God, to deepen ones on-going Centering Prayer practice, and invite you into a Lectio Divina practice.  An established practice of Centering Prayer is required.  It is also important to have read “Open Mind, Open Heart” by Fr. Keating.

Three registration options are offered. The RESIDENTIAL option is recommended for a complete retreat experience.  Two commuter options are offered, the LONG DAY COMMUTER option starts with Centering Prayer at 6:30 am, followed by breakfast, and includes lunch; the SHORT DAY COMMUTER option starts at 8:30, after breakfast, and includes lunch.  Both commuter options end at 5 pm, before dinner.  All participants sign-in starting at 4 pm on Monday, have dinner, provided by the retreat center, at 5:30, and participate in the opening session from 7 – 8 pm.

We are often told in life that we should forgive. Many of us know intuitively that holding onto afflictive emotions such as hurt, anger, grief and resentment keeps us from being free in our relationships with others and with God. The movement from knowing that we should forgive to actually forgiving is a healing journey. How do we take that first step in this healing journey? Mary Mrozowski, one of the founders of Contemplative Outreach, created a prayer practice that helps us to take that first step. When we practice this prayer we soon learn not only how to forgive but also that forgiveness is a gift of love. This workshop will be experiential, including plenty of time to learn and practice the Forgiveness Prayer.
